Meet Kathy

How long have you worked here?
Since we opened, April Stool's Day, 2000.

What is your "specialty" or favorite topic to chat with customers about? What do you nerd out on the most?
Ways to improve animals' lives through even small shifts in what, and how, we feed them. Simple, do-able changes that align as much as possible with their instincts and the way their bodies and minds function. Raw diets, digestive support, CBD, good fats, enrichment toys.

When I'm not at The Fish & Bone, I'm probably:
Getting outside! Walking Mercy on Higgins or around the point near East End Beach, biking around Portland and the Cape, working in the garden, maintaining our two old buildings on the Hill. We built a little place in the Mad River Valley in VT a few years ago and love hiking with Mercy in the Green Mountains. Traveling. We just got back from a cross-country road trip designed around Mercy. We are big on cooking too. My husband Mark is the food boss and I'm on prep for the most part. Right now I'm really enjoying Alison Roman's writing and recipes.

What's something fun people might not know about you?
When I was little I wanted to be either a cartoonist or a benefactor. I don't know where I got that word but I wanted to be able to make good things happen. And I was always more drawn to animals than people. I actually think those interests all came together in Fish & Bone's brand and mission.
